Sony has unveiled a new trick to get the PlayStation Plus Premium for half price, but the process seems to be stalling.
We now know that the new PlayStation Plus offering will launch on June 22, 2022 in Europe. To prepare for this change in the best possible conditions, Sony has set up an FAQ to answer questions from subscribers to PlayStation Plus or PlayStation Now in their current form.
A new trick to subscribe at a low price
It is in this FAQ that several Internet users have discovered a new trick to benefit from PlayStation Plus Premium at a low price. As a reminder, this new package will be launched on June 22 at 16.99 euros per month (119.99 euros per year) and will allow you to benefit from all the PlayStation advantages: free games, catalog of games to download or stream, retrogaming PS1, PS2 and PS3 or trial versions of video games to download.
Here is what can be read in Sony’s FAQ.
If you are subscribed to both services when the new PlayStation Plus becomes available, you will switch to the PlayStation Plus Premium plan with a new single payment date corresponding to your subscription with the longest end date. You will be informed of the new payment date and the amount of the subscription fee by e-mail.
In other words, it would be enough to accumulate years of subscriptions to PlayStation Plus in its current form at 60 euros per year, and to take a month of subscription to PlayStation Now in June, to benefit from several years of PlayStation Plus Premium without additional charges. This is reminiscent of the trick that allows you to subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate at a low price and that Microsoft has left in place for several years.
First problem, it is impossible to verify the operation of this trick as described by Sony before the launch of the new PlayStation Plus in June. We are therefore unable to confirm that this scheme would work. But there is a second, more important problem.
Beware, Sony seems to be blocking the activation of PlayStation Plus cards
Since yesterday when this FAQ was posted and shared, people have been trying to buy PlayStation Plus 12 month membership cards, but Sony’s system doesn’t seem to accept these codes into the user’s account. . Sony customer service pleads the computer problem, perhaps linked to an excessive influx of requests. It is unclear, however, if Sony could accept these codes again before June.
At the time these lines are written, you can still find 12-month subscription cards at 59.99 euros on Amazon.fr, it would be good for Sony to clarify its position. Especially since the resellers do not seem to accept order refunds, judging that they have done their job: provide a valid subscription code.
As it stands, this trick therefore seems to involve a significant number of risks for the client, with no guarantee of operation.
