Sony has succeeded in imposing its WH-1000XM3 headphones as a reference, in particular for its remarkable audio quality. Since then, competition has intensified with new models that come to titillate the Japanese firm. To maintain its leading position in the market, the Japanese brand is renewing its flagship reference with the Sony WH-1000XM4. This headset completes a recipe that has already been successful for a few years, and brings improvements, particularly in terms of noise reduction and sound reproduction. During our test, it clearly convinced us, and today it is all the more recommendable thanks to this offer which brings down the price of the helmet to less than 230 euros.

A better version of the XM3
The latest WH-100XM4 headphones from the Japanese firm largely take over the sober design of its predecessor, which we already appreciate. After all, why change, when a recipe works. The XM4 does not overlook comfort by favoring the circum-aural format and offers pads that encompass the ears well and ensure good passive isolation.
With already impeccable noise reduction on the previous model, Sony is bringing new features to continue to offer the best on the market. We will thus find a management of the reduction of ambient noise on twenty levels within the application, including a level of wind noise reduction. It is also possible to activate a concentration option on the voice, so that the headset lets conversations pass. On the sound side, still the same 40mm transducers as before, but the XM4 relies on a new audio processing system, the DSEE Extreme. Thanks to this, you will obtain a sound with more definition and dynamics.
With great new features
The XM4 brings its share of new functionalities such as the “Speak-to-Chat” mode. It will turn off the noise reduction as soon as you start talking with your interlocutor. But the real added value of this model compared to its predecessor is that it offers multipoint Bluetooth. This allows you to connect up to two devices simultaneously, to easily switch from one to the other without disconnecting. The XM4 is also still compatible with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and Siri.
Finally, the Sony headphones are very durable since the brand announces up to 38 hours of use without noise reduction, and 30 hours with this option activated. During our test, we were able to last 28h30 with the noise reduction permanently activated. As for charging, it will take place quickly via USB-C. You can thus gain 5 hours of listening time in just 10 minutes of charging.
