Apple has filed a patent application to prevent water or air pressure from damaging the iPhone or altering the accuracy of its sensors.

AppleInsider noticed a new patent application filed by Apple, which would aim to develop an iPhone that is more resistant to water and more generally to pressure, whether water or air.
A new patent for Apple
On May 17, 2022, Apple filed a patent application titled “ Electronic device with an integrated pressure sensor “, is “Electronic device with integrated pressure sensor“. In this document, Apple recalls that smartphone users in particular do everything with it; phones can therefore cope with situations where they must be resistant, for example when exposed to water or submerged.
We all know that water and electronics never mix. For several years, Apple has obviously made efforts to improve the resistance of the iPhone. We remember the withdrawal of the socketjackwhen the iPhone 7 arrives: removing ports actually improves water resistance.

If we can say that having an iPhone without a port is a good idea, in reality, it may be a little less so. Indeed, having a sealed device “may cause increased operating temperature because components are encapsulated or enclosed in a sealed environment» : heat and electronics never go well together either.
In addition, the sensors of the iPhone “such as temperature sensors or pressure transducers may be less accurate, as they are sealed inside the device and not in direct contact with the outside“. Moreover, in the diagrams shown in the patent, the iPhone and the iPad have charging ports.
Apple therefore seeks a balance between water resistance and cooling of the iPhone
The solution apparently found by Apple would actually be a sealed cavity filled with air inside the phone. This air could be vented to the outside through a barometric vent. Apple provides a second volume of air in its system, which could also be evacuated to the outside via a second opening.
This system of vents could make it possible to have a smartphone that does not heat up too much while improving its resistance to water and pressure. The patent also provides for sudden changes in altitude and the large pressure differences that can result.

However, these are only ways that Apple mentions to improve its phones, but we can think that the iPhones “should increase their depth and height tolerances“. Remember that this document is only a patent, which shows that indeed Apple is working on it, but it is not said that this system is implemented on the iPhone 14, nor even that it is not a day.
Recently, a lot of information has come in about what Apple is working on: rumors say that the next iPhone will abandon Lightning for USB-C and that Apple will develop foldable screens when others talk about an E screen. Ink for the iPhone. In addition, Apple filed a patent application a few days ago for shells that change the interface of the iPhone.
