Many netizens are reporting that PlayStation Plus membership cards can no longer be activated. However, Sony continues to market them to its partners.
The PlayStation Plus redesign seems like a massive project for Sony’s infrastructure. While waiting for the release of the new service on June 22, Internet users seem to be facing a thorny problem on which Sony does not communicate.
PlayStation Plus cards that don’t work
For several days, many players have indicated that they can no longer activate PlayStation Plus subscription cards on the Sony site. An error message is displayed and prevents the activation of the code and the addition of the subscription period despite having been well paid by the consumer. Just go to Amazon and look at the latest reviews to see that.
As the Eurogamer site indicates, disgruntled customers contacted Sony support who vaguely indicated that it was an unspecified temporary problem. We can read on the Resetera forum, but also Reddit and Twitter that the problem is generalized to all regions, and not limited to Europe.
According to the various testimonies, it seems that it is the accumulation of months of subscriptions which is now blocked by Sony. In other words, a subscription card would still work with a new account, but not with an already subscribed account. Problem: Sony has never blocked such a thing before and hasn’t publicly announced any change in policy on this particular point. However, most shops refuse a refund of this kind of subscription card since once the code is known, it can normally be activated by Sony. Stores and Sony therefore pass the buck on reimbursement, and players end up with cards that are more or less unusable.
Cards are still on sale
The first reports were made more than 48 hours ago and Sony has not publicly reacted to this change in policy. Worse, the firm continues to market subscription cards to its distribution partners, including Amazon.
It would be good form for the brand to explain this change and offer a solution for the Internet users concerned.
