The first Citroën electric bikes should land in Europe in the relatively near future. Except that France does not seem concerned by this launch, at least for the moment.
That car manufacturers are taking a keen interest in the e-bike sector is nothing new. BMW, Porsche or Mercedes are recent examples. Peugeot too, as a more historic player in this booming market since Covid-19.
To this small list would be added another car manufacturer oh so well known in our regions: Citroën, which should launch a very first electric bicycle in Germany, Austria and Switzerland at first, tells us a press release published on the portal release openPR.
A still mysterious bike
For the moment, France is not mentioned in the brand’s attack plan. Perhaps Citroën first wants to take the temperature elsewhere before tackling France. In addition, no official communication from the group has been made by us. For now, the company obviously wants to focus elsewhere.
Several German media specializing in electric bike news did not hesitate to relay the news, including the serious site ebike-news.de. The first model could thus be launched as early as June – or even this summer – without really knowing its technical specifications.
Caution is advised
At the time of writing these lines, only a visual is available: we can see a closed frame bike, a chain transmission and pad brakes. This technical basis leads us to think that Citroën’s two-wheeler should probably belong to the entry-level category.
Nevertheless, it is advisable to welcome all of these elements with a point of caution as long as the company has not officially communicated on them. We will try to stay on the lookout for a potential announcement to come in the coming months.
