Curved screens are now commonplace on high-end smartphones. But does this design choice appeal to you, or do you prefer flat displays? Tell us by answering our survey of the week.

In September 2014, Samsung launched the Galaxy Note Edge, a smartphone that many have since forgotten, but which was the first of a new kind. It was actually a smartphone with a curved screen on one side.
Since then, many manufacturers have taken over this aspect, even pushing the curvature on both sides of the display. Xiaomi has even gone so far as to push the vice to the extreme by offering, in China, a smartphone with a screen that goes all the way around the smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha. At Huawei, we even took advantage of these curvatures to integrate the volume buttons in software.
It must be said that this choice of design has a certain purely aesthetic advantage: seen from the front, the screen of the smartphone seems to completely merge and disappear, without unsightly metal or plastic edges. In addition to the design, this formula also allows manufacturers to use the edges of the smartphone to display certain elements such as notifications or alerts when the screen is placed on a table, the front side facing the surface.
But for eight years, curved edges still have their detractors. It must be admitted that this choice of design, if it may seem more aesthetic, is not always suitable for a good grip. Who says screen that extends to the edges also says touch surfaces that are not always well supported. Even if manufacturers are making more and more effort to analyze phantom presses due to the palm of the hand or the base of the thumb, some phones still record many key errors due to these curved screens.
