Garmin announces two new connected watches dedicated to running on the occasion of World Running Day. The brand announces new racing functions, to satisfy the most athletic among you.
After formalizing its Vivosmart 5 connected bracelet, Garmin presents two new models of connected watches. These are the Forerunner 255 and Forerunner 955 models; they benefit from new racing functions, including a racing widget.
A Forerunner 255 available in several versions, with a contactless payment function
The Verge reports that the Forerunner 255 is based on the 245 model and comes in two sizes; the 255 measures 46mm and weighs 49g, while the 255S model measures 41mm and weighs 32g. But these are not the only versions, since there are Forerunner 255 Music and 255 S Music versions. A musical alternative that can store up to 500 songs; you can also listen to playlists from Spotify, Amazon Music and Deezer. An option for which you will have to pay an additional 50 euros.
These connected watches are water resistant and have a maximum autonomy of 14 days and 30 hours in GPS mode. The Forerunner 255 have an NFC chip added that the 245 models did not have. Via the Garmin Pay application, it allows contactless payment.
The Forerunner 955 has a solar version
Garmin is also launching a high-end sports connected watch, the Forerunner 955. The latter has a 47 mm touchscreen and weighs 52 g. Where it is better than the 255 model is on the slightly higher autonomy: up to 15 days of operation, or 42 hours in GPS mode.
The Forerunner 955 is available in a “ solar», the 955 Solar. Thanks to solar recharging, it can last up to 20 days and up to 49 hours in solar mode. All this if the watch charges for three hours a day at 50,000 lux; as much to say that it will not be necessary to count only on that, but that all the same has the merit of being there and of being useful.
Compared to the 255, the 955 “adds a few more training metrics, like PacePro and ClimbPro, which give real-time feedback on your pace and elevation“. The 955 does not have a Music version, since it basically allows you to store songs, up to 2000.
The new connected watches launched by Garmin
Among the features that were already found on previous models, we can note the SpO2 sensor, heart rate monitoring and sleep monitoring. If these watches are dedicated to sport, they can be used for less sporty uses, with notificationspushincident detection, etc.
These Garmin watches bring their share of new features compared to previous models. First of all, we have a new racing widget available; He understands “race preparation information including performance forecast, weather, race day and countdown“.
The brand adds monitoring of the variation in heart rate during sleep, but also multiband GPS which improves its accuracy by communicating on several satellite frequencies; we already found it on the Garmin Fenix 7. We finally find “the ability for triathletes to more easily switch between sports with the press of a single button“.
