Thanks to this list and the work of iFixit, the Steam Deck should be one of the easiest consoles to repair.
The well-known site specializing in device repair, iFixit, has mistakenly published the list of Steam Deck components that it plans to offer for sale. If this list is no longer viewable on iFixit, the company has sent the full list to the site. The Verge.
In all, 23 components should be offered, ranging from the membrane of the Steam button for 5 dollars to the screen for 99 dollars, passing by the motherboard, outright, for 350 dollars.
The complete list of parts supplied
- Screen with anti-reflective treatment
- Right and left joysticks
- Membrane of buttons or D-Pad
- Back or front cover
- Circuit boards located on the left or right of the console
- Battery adhesive strips
- A charger
No battery yet, but it’s coming
There are still a few important components missing like the battery or the SSD, as pointed out by a Reddit user. But iFixit told The Verge that they are working on a battery solution.
In addition, among these components it will be possible to get your hands on a repair kit that allows you to help with the installation for 5 dollars more. Some parts in principle reserved for the 512 GB model, such as its anti-reflective screen or its reputedly quieter Huaying fans, can also be purchased through this channel. This paves the way for the improvement of its console, in the same way as a PC, which is always notable.
The company had already communicated its partnership with Valve, indicating in passing that the portable console seemed rather easy to repair. For the time being, we do not know the launch date of this service or whether the company has planned a European version in the long term.
