MG lifts the veil on its new electric compact, called Mulan. An appellation which should nevertheless be transformed into MG4 for the European market.
Since his arrival on the French market in 2020, MG Motors is busy! After the launch of the ZS, the Sino-British firm has indeed chained the novelties, with the hybrid EHS as well as the Marvel R, not to mention the recent electric station wagon MG 5.
With sales up 169% over the first five months of the year compared to last year, MG Motor is doing well, very well. And the manufacturer does not intend to stop on such a good path, while it has just lifted the veil on a brand new model, the MG4, which should in turn make the road to the Old Continent.
A future rival for the Mégane E-Tech?
This is the MG Mulan, which takes the form ofan unprecedented electric compact just revealed in China. A name that is surprising to say the least, which does not really follow the nomenclature put in place by the manufacturer. However, according to our colleagues from the Australian media Drive.au, this newcomer should take the name of MG4 for other markets, and therefore logically for Europe.
In terms of style, the one which should notably compete with the Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric and other Volkswagen ID.4 is very clearly inspired by the Cyberster concept unveiled last year. The driving position has not yet been unveiled by the brand, but the first noises from the corridors evoke the presence of a large touch screen associated with a digital handset, as well as leather seats. It will then be necessary to wait before knowing a little more.
Launch next year
For the moment, MG Motor does not give any details on the technical sheet of its Mulan, but the Chinese media, relayed by Drive.com, announce a 0 to 100 km / h achieved in less than four seconds, while the power n is not known. The compact will then rest a new platform called Nebula, only dedicated to electric models. This will be associated with a lithium-ion battery installed under the floor.
This new technical basis can come in two- or four-wheel drive, leaving then many possibilities for this MG Mulan. It will nevertheless be necessary to show a little more patience before knowing more about the electric compact. Its launch is scheduled for next year in China, and most likely in Europe as well.
Finally, regarding the price, it should be very aggressive, like the MG5 sold from 32,490 euros, excluding bonuses. We therefore imagine a price of less than 30,000 euros for this MG4.
