AAAData provided us with the French ranking of electric registrations for the month of April 2022: at the top of the ranking, a certain Fiat 500.
Each month, a ranking of French electrical registrations is established by AAA Data, which provides us with all of its data. At the same time, the Committee of French Automobile Manufacturers (CCFA) focuses on broader figures, at the industry level, which allow us to have some perspective on the situation.
At the beginning of May, it is therefore an opportunity to take a quick look in the rear view mirror and observe the developments in April. Already, know that the automotive sector is still suffering as much with a drop of 22.6% (108,723 registrations) compared to April 2021.
Several unfavorable factors
This delicate situation is linked to several factors already mentioned in the columns of Frandroid: the shortage of components which has affected many industries for two years, the war in Ukraine or even new factory closures in Asia because of Covid-19 – For example, Tesla had to close its Gigafactory in Shanghai for about a month.
In general, the trend is downward on the side of thermal cars: we observe a drop in registrations of 18.6% between January and April 2022. Opposite, electrified cars (rechargeable and electric hybrids) are doing rather good: in April, their share was 21%, or about one in five cars.
To go into even more detail, 56,198 electric registrations have been recorded since the start of 2022, i.e. 11.9% market share. Last year and over the same period, this figure was 6.9%. Proof that connected vehicles still enjoy such good dynamics.
Fiat and Dacia make a great breakthrough
Place now in the ranking of April registrations. According to figures from AAA Data, the Fiat 500 has achieved a top 1 with the way and 1737 registered units. Behind, the Dacia Spring follows closely with 1,568 models sold, despite its first price increase observed in early April.
|Hyundai Kona Electric||455|
This urban SUV is nonetheless the most affordable electric vehicle on the market: to see it in the top 5 is therefore not surprising. Behind, the indestructible Peugeot e-208 (1375) and Renault Zoé (1052) still and always occupy the best places in the monthly rankings.
Why is the Model 3 missing?
It’s no surprise that the Tesla Model 3 is missing from this chart. Indeed, the American manufacturer has a habit of delivering its models dedicated to the French at the end of each quarter. Recognition of a new registration takes place just before delivery, so there is nothing inconsistent in Tesla not appearing anywhere.
What about the Tesla Model Y produced and delivered from the Gigafactory Berlin? We imagine that Tesla sends them over the water, although in April the SUV does not appear in the top 10 either.
