Mercedes has just lifted the veil on a new concept called AMG Vision, announcing its first electric sports model. And it makes our mouths water…
Like all manufacturers, Mercedes must also consider the switch to all-electric. A shift to which the German firm already seems ready, which announced a few months ago its ambition to become a zero-emission brand by 2030. It thus takes a little ahead of the deadline announced by the European Union, which plans to ban the sale of thermal vehicles in 2035.
Showing a slight delay for a time, the German manufacturer has since caught up well, by launching a whole trendy range. EQC, EQB, EQE or even EQS and EQV, there is now something for everyone, from the small SUV to the large top-of-the-range sedan, including the fitted van. But what about sports? If there are indeed more dynamic versions of certain electric models, is the AMG branch doomed?
AMG is not dead
Rest assured, this is far from the case, as confirmed by Mercedes, which has just lifted the veil on a new concept, called Vision AMG. Recalling the Vision EQXX unveiled at the start of the year, this new style study foreshadows a four-seater coupé which should indeed see the light of day as standard. Of course, we should not expect to find an identical style, but some elements should be kept.
If the light signature seems poorly suited to the requirements of production, there is no doubt that it should inspire the version that will be marketed, as well as the grille. It is also illuminated, a trend found with other manufacturers, including Skoda with its Enyaq iV. Of course, the body has been designed to reduce air resistance, although Mercedes has not communicated on the Cx.
A very mysterious technical sheet
Unfortunately, Mercedes is not very talkative about the technical sheet of its concept and does not reveal any information. All that is known is that it is equipped with an axial flow electromotor developed by the English company Yasa, acquired by Daimler. Different from radial flux motors, this one notably has an energy density 2.5 times higher. The torque is also more important.
The production model inspired by this Vision AMG concept should see the mainstream by 2025. Other trendy sports models should undoubtedly see the light of day, while Mercedes does not intend to stop offering high-performance vehicles. despite increasingly stringent environmental standards.
