Xiaomi has formalized its Poco F4 GT, which is based on a solid technical sheet at an entry price of 599 euros. Presentation.
In 2018, Xiaomi hit hard with the first Pocophone – then renamed Poco – in its history. At the time, the Chinese brand distinguished itself with excellent value for money, but above all, performance was placed at the heart of the specifications. The idea: to offer an affordable, but very powerful smartphone.
A few years later, the Poco entity has earned its place in the mobile device landscape. And in this year 2022, the manufacturer is logically returning to the charge with a new model called Poco F4 GT. This is a move upmarket, since the phone is torn from 599 euros, when the brand had accustomed us to lower prices.
Top of the line in performance
The bar of 600 euros can somehow mark the symbolic level of the mid-range to the top of the range. At this price, expectations are necessarily more numerous in terms of characteristics. And that’s good, Xiaomi has put the package on certain components, starting with the processor and fast charging.
This Poco F4 GT is indeed equipped with the latest generation chip from Qualcomm, the famous Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The idea being to address inveterate gamers and users who are thirsty for high-flying performance. With it, everyday tasks and resource-intensive 3D games should be handled without great difficulty.
On the fast charging side, Poco has opted for a 120 W block capable of recharging the 4700 mAh battery in 17 minutes. A very short period of time that we had already observed and tested on the Xiaomi 11T Pro. Note that the charger is indeed provided in the box – this is no longer the case with all manufacturers.
The manufacturer also mentions the Adaptive Charge feature, “which prevents the battery from overcharging into the critical 80%-100% charge range throughout the night“, we explain.
For the rest of the technical sheet, the Poco F4 GT offers everything classic for its price range. To know :
- Screen: 6.67 inch, AMOLED, HDR10+
- Refresh rate: 120Hz
- Definition: FHD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels)
- Gorilla Glass Victus
- Software: MIUI 13 under Android 12
- Connectivity: 5G, Bluetooth 5.2, WiFi 6E, NFC
- 64-megapixel main sensor (f/1.9);
- 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle (f/2.2)
- 2-megapixel (f/2.4) macro sensor
- 20-megapixel (f/2.2) selfie sensor
It is worth remembering one thing: the Poco range is not the most famous when it comes to photos. With a tariff positioning of 600 euros minimum, we nevertheless expect a rise in power in this area. The camera is generally a key criterion: having a hole in it could be prohibitive for some people.
A massive phone
In terms of weight and dimensions, this Poco F4 GT is worthy of a Poco phone: you will be dealing with a relatively large and heavy device, with a thickness of 8.5 mm and a weight of 210 grams. The device finally embeds “magnetic triggers, capable of withstanding 1.5 million pressures”, which have been “tested on more than 100 popular games”.
In order to make its product more attractive, Xiaomi is trying to lure customers through several tricks. First, the YouTube Premium service will be preinstalled on the Poco F4 GT to enjoy a two-month free subscription. Then, introductory offers are put in place with more affordable prices.
