A little over two months after the launch of its Snapdragon X70, Qualcomm is back in action with two new features for its new AI-enhanced 5G modem.
At the end of February, during MWC 2022, Qualcomm launched its Snapdragon X70. This new 5G modem, equipped with an integrated AI processor to boost its connectivity, will soon be able to claim two new technologies unveiled today by Qualcomm.
The first allows to reinforce cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity; the second, more experimental, offers standalone 5G mmWave connectivity. However, the latter should primarily concern operators.
Always further in wireless technologies
To begin with, Qualcomm presents anyway its Qualcomm Smart Transmit 3.0 technology. As its name suggests, this new function now makes it possible to calculate in real time the average transmission powers of the 2G-5G, mmWave standards, but also Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz, 6, 6E and 7 ) and Bluetooth to dynamically improve performance.
According to the press release that Qualcomm sent us, this third iteration of Smart Transmit technology offers users faster and more reliable connectivity, regardless of the networks used. Until now, it did not manage Wi-Fi and Bluetooth networks.
Qualcomm’s other announcement is certainly more ambitious. It mainly concerns operators and makes it possible to achieve standalone 5G mmWave connectivity thanks to the Snapdragon X70. This independent 5G mmWave connectivity, which allows the deployment of 5G mmWave networks and devices without using an anchor on the sub-6 GHz spectrum, specifies Qualcomm, is capable of crossing the 8 Gbps milestone for very fast downloads. A 2-hour film in Ultra HD can thus be downloaded in just 34 seconds, promises the Californian giant.
The objective of this internally tested technology? Offer greater flexibility to operators toprovide their residential and business customers with fiber-equivalent broadband wireless access with multi-gigabit speeds and ultra-low latency“, we read from the press release, again thanks to the Snapdragon X70. For Qualcomm, this 5G mmWave access point could be relevant for home or professional use, but also in an industrial environment.
