Motorola will hold a conference in China on August 2 to introduce its next foldable smartphone, the Razr 3. A way here to pull the rug out from under its main competitor, the Galaxy Z Flip 4, presented a little more a week later.
For sure, the month of August 2022 will be placed under the sign of foldable smartphones. And Motorola clearly intends to be part of the party. The American brand will indeed hold a conference on August 2, in China, to unveil its next folding phone called Motorola Razr 3.
The news was published on the Weibo platform – relayed by Android Authority – as a teaser. This third-generation device, after a first model in 2019 then a second in 2020, is Motorola’s next offensive in this product segment. But above all, it will come to walk on the flowerbeds of Samsung.
The timing of August 2 is indeed not trivial. It allows Motorola to pull the rug out from under the Galaxy Z Flip 4, expected on August 10 alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 4 at a major conference. The Korean group has a habit of presenting its foldable smartphones in August of each year.
This will allow Motorola to monopolize a good amount of media spotlight before Samsung. Especially since its Razr 3 will be a pure and hard competitor of the Z Flip 4, in view of their same clamshell format. Its characteristics and its design will logically be closely scrutinized at the time of its presentation.
Its design, precisely, has been the subject of several leaks in recent months. Several photos, and even a video, have indeed been published on the Web. We see a device openly inspired by the Z Fip 3, whose design has seduced the crowds – the Flip model constitutes 70% of foldable sales at Samsung in 2021.
The Motorola Razr 3 is expected with a solid technical sheet, which could combine a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, a 120 Hz screen or even a 50 megapixel camera coupled with a 13 megapixel ultra wide-angle. At the rear, an external screen would also be able to display some basic information.
Limited to China?
For the moment, and according to Android Authority, the Razr 4 would be limited to China: no information on international availability has filtered. But let’s remember that the second generation Razr was launched in France, especially at Fnac and Darty. Hopes are therefore allowed for a wider marketing.
Finally, note that the conference will also be an opportunity to discover the Motorola X30 Pro, which, according to rumors, could be the very first phone to carry a 200 megapixel sensor.
