Not sure which PC controller to choose to enjoy your games? Here is our selection of the best controllers for gamers, wireless or wired, Xbox brand or other.
The best controllers for PC
Playing with the keyboard and the mouse is a virtual obligation for MMORPGs or strategy games, but for certain titles, in particular adventure, sports or racing games, the controller is often considered more practical and pleasant.
We have therefore selected the best PC controllers for you to play on the pad in the best possible conditions. If you’re more of a mobile gamer, we also have a comparison of the best Bluetooth controllers for Android and iOS. Do you play on Nintendo Switch? Check out our controller recommendations for Nintendo’s hybrid console.
Microsoft Xbox Series Wireless Controller The best controller available
For more than 15 years now, Xbox controllers have been the standard in the PC universe. And the release of the Xbox Series X and S did not change the situation, quite the contrary.
Although reusing the same design as the previous generation, this new version of the Xbox pad is very slightly more compact. This makes it easier to use for small hands, without degrading ergonomics for the rest of the users.
Microsoft also took the opportunity to unfold the lessons of its Elite 2 pad, with a new textured plastic on the handles, but above all completely redesigned triggers and D-Pad. Said triggers are now vibrating, but not many games support this feature yet.
For food, it will once again go through AA batteries. We strongly recommend that you invest in a few pairs of rechargeable batteries and a charger, it will cost less in the long term and the planet will thank you.
For connectivity, we keep USB-C, Bluetooth and the dedicated link via dongle. The latter is by far the most reliable and the extra 10 euros are worth it. And if you have a dongle of the previous generation, it remains compatible. You will find more details in our complete test of this Xbox controller.
Note that Microsoft recently launched a controller called Aqua Shift, in addition to its Speedo swimsuit look, it inaugurates a new rubberized rear grip that is very pleasant in the hand. We hope this change comes soon in more colorways. In the meantime, you can acquire it for 65 euros.
Microsoft Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller The deluxe version
You are an elite gamer, you deserve better than Microsoft’s basic controller, you need high-end, premium, the ultimate, so go for the Xbox Elite 2 Controller. Our test is clear: c is the best controller in the world. Adjustable trigger stroke, directional cross and interchangeable sticks and adjustable sensitivity, or even four “pedalsremovable straps that fall under the middle and index fingers of each hand.
They are configurable at will, but be careful all the same: they can only “double» a main key to facilitate certain key combinations. Can’t assign it to a keyboard key on PC like “m” for map, “i” for inventory, etc.
Under these conditions, the pedals are therefore of relative use. Unlike the basic Xbox controller, this Elite model comes with a non-removable battery by default. It recharges directly via USB-C, or via a small support on which you just have to put the controller for more elegance. Microsoft announces an autonomy of 40 hours, which was verified in practice during our complete test of the Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller.
However, its price remains all the more difficult to digest as the new Xbox controller has taken over a good part of its particularities. We really hope that Microsoft is in a hurry to give us a third generation.
Razer Wolverine V2 For demanding gamers
Are you looking for something more successful than the basic Xbox controller, but don’t want to empty your PEL for an Elite controller at the end of its life? Razer’s Wolverine 2 may interest you. Thought for the Xbox Series X and S it is obviously fully PC compatible. Contrary to current trends, this is a wired controller, with a 3m cable. The latter is split into two parts to detach easily and avoid damage if someone trips on the cable.
The controller itself takes up the main features of the Xbox controller, with however a slightly revised format and above all a rubber covering which prevents any slipping, even after long hours of play. The bulk of the changes are however to be found on the side of the controls themselves. The thumbsticks are a bit larger while the button mechanisms are now “tactile mechanics» and offer a little more resistance than the basic ones.
The slick D-pad won’t appeal to everyone, and we find the adjustable triggers a bit soft. Two additional buttons appear near the triggers. These are configurable via a Windows and Xbox app, but do not add much to the whole.
Razer delivers here a good controller for the enthusiast who can no longer wait for an Elite Series 3 controller and who has no use for wireless. We tell you more in our test of the Razer Wolverine 2.
Nacon Revolution Pro Controller 3 For PC and PS4 players
Best known as the high-end controller for PS4 players since it is one of the few third-party controllers to be PlayStation licensed, the Nacon Pro 3 is also very suitable for PCs. It’s the one we recommend for PS4 players who also own a PC… or for PC players who also own a PS4. Let’s remember that it does double duty. PC-only gamers will find little interest in the touchpad present on the controller. Already little used on PS4, it is perfectly useless on PC.
As with the Xbox Elite controller, it offers many settings, including the sensitivity of the sticks. And you can also add weights in the controller to adjust it. PS4 players will also retain its asymmetrical sticks, unlike the official controller. Sold for 99 euros (in wired version), the Nacon is a good compromise between the classic Xbox Controller and the Xbox Elite Series 2.

The Nacon Revolution X Pro
If you want to continue the experience at Nacon, discover the Revolution X Pro. The controller in question is compatible with Windows 10 and Xbox Series X / S. The product will delight people wishing to be very precise about in-game interactions. joysticks. It requires a wired connection from USB-A to UBS-C.
The manufacturer recommends downloading its Revolution X software to facilitate the installation of the controller. We regret its cheap appearance and especially its starting price of 109 euros which poses a real problem of attractiveness compared to other references. To convince yourself of this, read our test of the Nacon Revolution X Pro.
8BitDo SN30 Pro The retrogaming controller
8Bitdo is a manufacturer of modern controllers… with a very old-school look, taking up the design of iconic models such as those of the Nintendo, Super Nintendo or Mega Drive. Despite this old-fashioned design, the controllers are of undeniable manufacturing quality and incorporate current technologies: analog sticks, vibrations and USB-C in particular. And beyond the PC, they even have the luxury of being Nintendo Switch and smartphone compatible.
However, you should not look for new features or impressive performance. They are just good Bluetooth controllers that will work on PC and many other platforms (including Android). It goes without saying that they will be perfect for retrogaming enthusiasts. If you want to know more, we tested the 8bitdo SN30 Pro+.
PowerA Wired Xbox Controller Series The cheap controller
If it is undeniable that wireless is more practical on a daily basis, the function is not essential on a PC, in particular if you are close to your machine, in particular at a desk. Choosing a wired controller can therefore be a good way to save money. If there are dozens of models on the market, we have chosen this PowerA model which is sold at a reasonable price.
The latter takes up the main lines of the design of the Xbox One pad and is therefore comfortable. The D-Pad is therefore a little less pleasant, but the finish remains excellent, especially for this price. No worries either about support whatever the platform. A simple, effective and solid pad… hard to ask for more.
