The beta update of the Samsung Health app reveals a new temperature measurement that would be integrated into the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro.

While the existence of the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro has been confirmed by Samsung within its Samsung Health application thanks to a list of compatible devices, we are now learning more about the proposed health measures. It is always via the Samsung Health application that a user discovered the appearance of a new piece of data.
On Reddit, a tester of the latest beta version of Samsung Health has indeed spotted a new measure of “skin temperature during sleep”. However, this measure is not currently offered by any connected watch or activity bracelet from the Korean manufacturer. It should therefore logically be a new data measured by the company’s future watches, the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. A short description also specifies that this measure can be used to “predict your cycle more accurately” and could therefore be especially useful for monitoring your menstrual cycle in order to detect periods of ovulation.
This new measure corroborates a rumor that has been circulating for a few months about the firm’s next connected watches. Some hallway noises indeed evoked the arrival of a new body temperature measurement on the Galaxy Watch 5. A way for Samsung to deal with a similar measurement which would be in development in Cupertino for the next Apple Watch.
A less reliable measurement than body temperature
Nevertheless, it would only be a question here of the cutaneous temperature — that of the skin — and not of the body temperature. A difference that can be played at almost ten degrees depending on the outside temperature and many factors. To go from the temperature of the skin to that of the body, manufacturers must develop efficient algorithms. However, this does not yet seem to be the case on the Samsung side. It is probably also for this reason that the firm would only offer a measurement during the night, when the body is at rest, warm, and less influenced by the external temperature.
Remember also that Huawei already offers a similar measure on its latest connected watches, the Huawei Watch 3, Huawei Watch GT 3 and Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro.
