According to leaker Ice Universe, Samsung has found a way to largely erase the fold of the Galaxy Z Flip 4, expected for this summer.
This summer, Samsung should present its new smartphones with folding screens, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. Indeed, according to information from the Chinese leaker Ice Universe, generally well informed about the industry, “the fold of the Flip4 will be much less marked than that of the Flip3”.

It must be said that Samsung would have worked on a new hinge system on its future folding smartphone. As 9to5Google reports, “Samsung has a new hinge in the pipes that would reduce its size and weight”. Concretely, we can expect a reduced space between the two parts of the smartphone when folded. According to Ice Universe, this translates to a weight of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 of 254 grams, compared to 271 grams for the Galaxy Z Flip 3.
A Galaxy Z Fold 4 also benefiting from a less marked fold
It must be said that Samsung has fallen behind in terms of the visibility of the fold on its folding smartphones. Oppo’s latest model, the Find N – available only in China – incorporates an almost invisible fold once the smartphone is open. For their part, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 retain a crease that is both visible with reflections once the smartphones are open, but which can also be felt when the user interacts with the screen.
Reducing the crease with the help of a new hinge therefore seems to be one of the main advances that Samsung has implemented for its next generation of folding smartphones. At the end of May, the same leaker indicated that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 could also benefit from a more discreet fold, enough to allow for a smoother screen once opened.
We will know more about the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 during the summer, during their official presentation. As a reminder, the previous generation was presented on August 11, 2021. We can therefore expect the officialization of the new models during the first half of August.
