Like many other models, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 now benefits from remote updating. For now, this feature is only reserved for the infotainment system.
The days when it was necessary to make an appointment at the garage to update the infotainment system of your vehicle will soon be a distant memory. Not for everyone yet, but more and more manufacturers now offer their customers the possibility of upgrading their vehicle OTA (Over-The-Air), without having to travel or use a USB key to perform the update.
This is particularly the case of Tesla, which inaugurated this system, but also of Volkswagen and Volvo, and now of Hyundai with its Ioniq 5. In a recently published press release, the Korean firm announces that its electric sedan is now compatible with over-the-air (OTA) updateswhich considerably facilitates the life of the owners.
For the time being, this functionality, of which the Ioniq 5 is the only one in the Hyundai range in Europe to benefit, is limited only to the infotainment system and cartography (GPS). As the manufacturer points out, two OTA updates will be offered each yearthe first being launched in mid-June, while the second will be available in the second half of 2022.
But unlike Tesla or Volkswagen with its ID range, don’t expect to enjoy better range or faster charging. Indeed, this feature will only allow you to take advantage of an up-to-date infotainment system, as well as GPS mapping taking into account the latest developments in road infrastructure. For now, however, Hyundai does not give details on the content of the first update.
How to take advantage of this feature?
All the future OTA upgrades will be done automatically. But to be able to take advantage of it the first time, a little manipulation at your home or in a dealership will still be necessary. For your car to be compatible with this feature, the infotainment system will need to be equipped with build 220211 or later. For this, two solutions are available to you.
You can go to a dealership, so that the handling is carried out by a professional if you don’t know how to do it or are afraid of making a mistake. Otherwise, it is possible to download the update from the Hyundai site, put it on a USB key or SD card and plug it directly into your car. All the steps are then indicated on the brand’s website, so as not to make any mistakes. Once this small manipulation has been carried out, the next updates will be done on their own, without your intervention. A notification will be sent to you on the Bluelink app each time one of them is installed.
To note that all features will be accessible when the update is being downloaded.
