A tablet with many advantages
After 4 years of absence, Xiaomi is back in force with its mid-range tablet: the Xiaomi Pad 5. The main strength of this product is to deliver a solid technical sheet without paying a high price. It is thus equipped with an excellent 11-inch LCD screen, displaying a WQHD+ definition of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels. Result: the screen offers good immersion on video content, especially since the tablet supports Dolby Vision (HDR) and Dolby Atmos to ensure a good audio experience. The panel is devoid of OLED, but still has a refresh rate of 120 Hz for better fluidity.
To operate its tablet, Xiaomi integrates the Snapdragon 860 to ensure performance. This chip is powerful enough to perform multitasking, or even launch 3D games with maximum graphics in some cases. During our test, the benchmarks even showed that the Pad 5 was more powerful than the more expensive Samsung Galaxy S7 FE. Add to that Android 11 and the brand’s in-house interface, and you’ll get an iOS-like experience, thanks to certain features including the control center, which is inspired by Apple’s in-house OS.
Made for duration
Aesthetically, the Xiaomi Pad 5 takes on the features of the high-end tablets from the Cupertino company, with well rounded edges and thin borders around the screen. On the other hand, the photo part will struggle to compete with the iPad, which has the advantage of offering a LiDAR sensor. You will find a simple 13 megapixel main sensor on the back, as well as an 8 megapixel sensor on the front, sufficient for occasional video calls.
As for autonomy, the Chinese manufacturer includes an 8,720 mAh battery allowing use for more than two days, depending on your use. This remains in the average of the tablets on the market, where for example a 30-minute game of Fortnite will only make you lose 7%. Charging is done via its USB-C port, but don’t rely too much on speed, as it will take just over two hours to be at 100%.
