Here are the Realme 9 and 9 5G, two phones that are more different than their names suggest. One offers Oled, the other LCD, one integrates a slightly more powerful chip, the other makes up for its finesse and lightness. We summarize everything for you.

Realme continues its irresistible rise in our green regions and after launching the Realme 9i, 9 Pro and 9 Pro Plus, the Chinese brand unveils its Realme 9 and Realme 9 5G this Thursday, May 12. Be careful though, despite their very similar names, these two entry-level phones don’t have much to do with each other. We’ve got you covered.
Realme 9: the right balance on paper
The Realme 9 quite logically follows the Realme 8, while positioning itself on a slightly higher price list. Indeed, he won nearly 30 euros compared to his little brother.
This does not prevent the proposal from being just as interesting. Starting with its 6.4-inch Oled 90 Hz Full HD+ screen, which the manufacturer claims could reach 1000 cd/m² of brightness, a very high figure that allows you to never be bothered by ambient light, even in the middle of a dodge.
On the design side too, we can point out that Realme seems to have learned from its wanderings and had the rich idea of dropping the back with the brand’s slogan written in huge, for a more sober rendering with a plain color. It also offers a 3.5mm jack. You will have the choice between white, black or gold.

Still in terms of design, the phone offers Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection to protect its screen from scratches, always a good point for a phone under 300 euros. It is also endowed with a contained thickness (7.99mm) and a relatively light weight (178 grams). This did not prevent Realme from integrating a nice 5000 mAh battery, powered by 33W charging, capable of displaying 50% autonomy in around 31 minutes according to Realme.
In photos, the Realme 9 relies on a 108-megapixel sensor, the Samsung ISOCELL, which is supposed to provide decent image quality for a smartphone at this price. It also incorporates an ultra wide angle sensor and a macro sensor.
The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 chip, whose octo-core CPU is engraved in 6nm, enough to ensure a significant gain in autonomy on paper. The chip is aided by 6 to 8 GB of RAM and can go up to 13 GB of “dynamic RAM”. Understand by this that it will be able to tap into the ROM (slower) to gain a little in execution speed.
Realme 9 5G: LCD, but more powerful chip
Let’s move on to the 5G version. This has a slightly more powerful processor, the Snapdragon 695 5G, but it gives way on the photo and screen part. Indeed, the panel here is larger, 6.6 inches and faster, 120 Hz, but we swap Oled technology for LCD. We are not going to pillory it, but it would seem prudent to wait for the tests before jumping on it. Indeed, some LCD screens are very successful, while others are rather disappointing.

In the photo, the phone switches to a slightly less endowed sensor since it displays 50 megapixels on the counter. We can therefore expect a slightly worse sharpness on the shots, even if the bulk of the work will be done by the chip. The other rear sensors are a macro and a helping sensor for black and white shots, so don’t expect much from them. The selfie camera offers 16 megapixels.
For the rest, larger phone requires, we lose a little finesse and lightness: we go to 191 grams and 8.5mm thick. This remains within reasonable limits for a 6.6 inch panel. The battery retains its large capacity of 5000 mAh.
