Xiaomi’s Redmi AirDots 2 are the cheapest wireless headphones on the market. They are still adorned with a great autonomy and a correct sound to accompany you during your journeys, all for only 8 euros.

After the success of the Redmi AirDots (3 million copies sold), Xiaomi continues to renew its range of inexpensive headphones. The second version comes to improve the recipe of the first of the name, to become the most affordable solution to have true wireless. Far from being the best, they offer a decent audio experience for the price which is ridiculous thanks to this offer.
The characteristics of the Xiaomi Redmi AirDots 2
- Wireless headphones with a discreet design
- The correct sound (AAC and SBC codecs)
- The comfortable autonomy of 12 hours
- The USB-C port
Generally offered at around fifteen euros, the Xiaomi Redmi AirDots 2 are currently on sale at only 8.25 euros on the AliExpress site.
A decent audio experience
The Redmi AirDots 2 are not aimed at audio aficionados, but rather at people who simply want to succumb to the “trend” of wireless without breaking the bank. In terms of comfort, they should remain pleasant to wear over the long term (4.2 grams for each earphone). Despite their low price, they offer good passive isolation thanks to their in-ear format. It will not be necessary to rely on this model to offer noise reduction, but still has an ambient noise cancellation system during calls. Result: you get a calmer conversation with your interlocutor.
Regarding the audio part, we find the SBC and AAC codecs which will do the trick to listen to your favorite playlists on your streaming platform. The sound quality isn’t amazing unless you like bass. The latter are much too prominent in relation to the treble, and render an unnatural effect for certain musicals. Also, without an app or an equalizer, it is impossible to fix this problem.
Welcome improvements
For this second version, Xiaomi improves the main defect of the first model which had difficulties in the connection between the two headphones. During our handling of the AirDots, the headphones disconnected frequently which was quite annoying. This is no longer the case with the Redmi AirDots 2. These are now Bluetooth 5.0 compatible to improve connection stability. You can then take the one you want and enjoy monaural sound, then add the second to switch automatically and seamlessly to binaural (stereo).
Another appreciable change, the Redmi AirDots 2 welcome a USB-C port to recover energy much more quickly to the case and the earpieces. On the other hand, the autonomy remains the same with 4 hours for the headphones and up to 12 hours with the case. Finally, note that we go from push buttons to touch surfaces to change songs or call on a virtual assistant.
Other cheap headphones
The Xiaomi Redmi AirDots 2 are arguably the cheapest, but there are other affordable wireless earbuds worth the money that we recommend in our guide below.
