The Cowboy 3 electric bike may have been launched two years ago, but it is still an excellent reference for those who want to get around town comfortably. It’s a good time to try it since its price goes from 2,290 euros to 1,990 euros on the brand’s website.
Cowboy, the Belgian start-up that wanted to combine electric bikes and connectivity, launched the third generation of its connected cycle in 2020, simply called the Cowboy 3. Some improvements have been made to this new iteration, which has resulted in to raise its price. Fortunately, a promotion of 300 euros is currently softening the bill.

An elegant design
For its Cowboy 3 electric bike, the Belgian brand wanted to keep the stylistic lines for which it had already opted for the older generation. We are therefore entitled to a refined design, with a very elegant matte gray and a minimalist design, which is manifested in particular by the absence of folds at the welds. The cycle thus stands out with an unusual look compared to other VAEs on the market.
Concerning the driving itself, the user will have to adopt a so-called “sporty” position, that is to say leaning forward since the handlebars are placed slightly lower than the saddle. A characteristic to take into account when buying, since this bike is very different from other, straighter city models. Otherwise, the Cowboy cycle guarantees a good balance during its handling on the road, but it will still be necessary to pay attention to the gales. But overall, the Cowboy 3 will provide excellent maneuverability and very good driving flexibility. Maneuverability also reinforced by the dynamism of the electric assistance. This electric assistance is also very pleasant, since the acceleration is both powerful and soft. Note, however, that this bike has been designed to be ridden by cyclists of 170 to 195 centimeters, and that comfort will not be guaranteed for people not measuring a size between these two.
A carbon belt rather than a chain
Transmission level, we find on the Cowboy 3 a carbon belt, reinforced compared to that of the Cowboy 2, and which is a solution much more reliable and resistant than a traditional chain and especially much less messy. As on the previous version, we are dealing here with a single-speed transmission: you are only asked to pedal, and during this time, the bike calculates and provides the necessary power. For the brakes, Tektro HD-R310 hydraulic disc models were chosen. These are more powerful and easier to adjust than mechanical brakes. The tires will be better cut against punctures, according to the brand.
You should also know that in addition to its manufacturing quality and its many features, the Cowboy 3 comes with little equipment. Indeed, if the handlebars indeed accommodate a bell, we cannot count on the presence of a crutch to stabilize the bike when stationary. To have access to a mudguard, you will have to pay a small supplement.
An application with small novelties
The Cowboy 3 electric bike comes with an app, available on iOS and Android. You will be able to pair your smartphone with your two-wheeler. In particular, you can activate your bike, but also have an overview of the remaining autonomy, the distance traveled or the speed and intensity of the electric assistance. Other more advanced options are also available, such as “Find my bike”, which locates the bike, “Auto Unlock” which wakes up the bike when the user is nearby before activating it when the user touch the handlebars, or the “Auto Lock”, which automatically turns off the bike after a certain period of inactivity.
Finally, regarding the autonomy of this VAE, it can run for 70 kilometers, which is a very good result. The 100 W charge gives it a full charge in 3.5 hours. In addition, the bicycle’s removable 360 Wh battery is located in the seat tube. To recharge it, it will be necessary to remove this battery.
