Asus renews its Zenbook Pro Duo in a new format, with the latest innovations in the laptop market.
Like every year in the spring, Asus renews its range of portable PCs as Computex in Taiwan approaches (from May 24 to 27 this year). At the manufacturer, the new flagship is the Asus Zenbook Pro Duo 14 OLED (UX8402). It takes up and improves the design of the Zenbook Pro Duo, with a 14-inch format making it easier to carry.
Double screen and double technology
As the name Duo suggests, this is a PC in the range where Asus likes to integrate two screens into the product. On the upper part of the base, above the keyboard, there is therefore a second screen which will rise to give the illusion of an extension of the main screen and give additional functions to the user.
Here however, the illusion might work only partially. Asus offers on the main screen a beautiful 14-inch OLED panel in 16:10 format with a definition of 2880 x 1800 pixels with 120 Hz refresh and 100% DCI-P3 coverage. Particularly attractive characteristics, which do not correspond to the second screen. The latter offers a 12.7-inch LCD panel with a definition of 2880 x 864 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. We imagine that Asus will do its best to calibrate the two screens so that the colors are close, but an OLED screen and an LCD screen will not be able to offer the same rendering.
This is explained by the position of the second screen which would necessarily have caused greater reflections if it had used Oled technology. It will therefore be necessary here to use the ScreenPad Plus as a second screen, for accessory functions, and not as an extension of the first screen.
Under the hood, there is a 12th generation Intel Core processor, up to a Core i9-12900H, supported by an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics chip. They will share a thermal envelope of 85 W thanks to the cooling system placed under the second screen. Asus promises a 38% improvement in airflow thanks to its new hinge system that elevates the ScreenPad Plus by 12 degrees. There is also 32 GB of 4800 MHz DDR5 RAM and up to 2 TB of NVMe SSD storage.
Regarding connectivity, the Asus Zenbook Pro Duo 14 OLED includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports on the right edge, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port. At the back, we owe a microSD Express 7.0 reader with an HDMI 2.1 port and a 3.5 mm jack port on the right edge. The format remains relatively compact since we are talking about 1.75 kg on the scale for a chassis of 323.5 x 224.7 x 17.9 mm.
The Asus Zenbook Pro Duo 14 OLED (UX8402) will be offered from 2,099 euros during the 3rd quarter of 2022 in France.
