If they are less widespread than at one time, touch pads are still part of the market. Check out our recommendations on the best cheap tablets.
The best tablets under 500 euros
Touch pads have become rarer lately, bit by bit eaten away by bigger and bigger smartphones and more and more flexible PCs. However, it regularly releases new models and the market still has its followers, especially on the iPad side. In the world of tablets, two behemoths reign supreme: Apple and Samsung, in the same way as in the smartphone market. But new players have recently entered the sector, such as Xiaomi and Realme. On the Android tablet market, competition is starting to rage again.

Apple iPad 9 (2021) Our choice
Apple is always one step ahead with its iPads. This was therefore already the case with the iPad 9, released in 2021, at a modest price compared to the usual prices at Apple.
Also recommended in our guide to the best tablets, the iPad 9 is a must-have in the field, which performs almost flawlessly. However, we have a reservation about the design, straight out of the late 2010s with its large black bands framing the screen.
Apart from that, the iPad 9 manages to shine in all areas: impeccable ergonomics, a smooth software interface, power to spare, a magnificent screen or even a mastered camera.
In detail, this iPad model has a 10.4-inch screen in Retina resolution with True Tone. On the processor part, the A13 Bionic chip is in charge. At least 64 GB of storage is available. iPadOS 15 takes care of the animation, resulting in unfailing fluidity and disconcerting ease of use.

XiaomiPad 5 The Challenger
The Xiaomi Pad 5 tablet is undoubtedly the ideal alternative to the iPad for those who prefer to turn to a product running Android. With its very interesting price/quality ratio, this model stands out as a real challenger to the iPad 9.
The Xiaomi Pad 5 is a success: fluid, powerful, pleasant to handle, it is both sober and efficient. Its powerful Snapdragon 860 SoC allows it to run a large number of games without worry and ensure a smooth user experience in everyday life. The chip is still supported by 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.
The design is sleek and understated, with a very satisfying dark aluminum back. The 11-inch screen is more than enough for all types of use, thanks in particular to its WQHD+ resolution and its 120 Hz refresh rate. The tablet screen is efficient enough to be used in gaming. The photo module does its job and the front sensor will be more than enough for videoconferences. Same story on the side of the speakers, which will be more than enough to watch classic video content.
In short, the Xiaomi Pad 5 is a balanced product, sold at a perfectly controlled price, which makes it one of the “safe bets” of the moment. Read our full Xiaomi tablet review to learn more?
Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE Samsung quality at a low price
Like the range of Samsung smartphones, the Galaxy Tab S7 FE wants to offer a complete product without being too expensive. In this case, it will impose some concessions in the benefits. It is still a high quality inexpensive Android touchscreen tablet. It arises as an alternative to the iPad.
Design-wise, the Tab S7 FE resembles the Galaxy Tab S7 Plus. Samsung’s inexpensive touchscreen tablet offers rounded edges and neat finishes. The 12.4 screen is the symbol of Samsung’s strengths on the subject despite the choice of LCD technology for the display. The panel offers a beautiful display definition, but also a refresh at 60 Hz.
The internal power is provided by a Snapdragon 750G processor aided by 4 GB of RAM. All of this configuration is capable of ensuring good overall performance on everyday software such as Netflix or social networks. In the gaming part, it is necessary to make some concessions since the best titles like Fortnite suffer a little.
It suffers from the comparison to the competition without an OLED screen or a slot for an S-Pen. It is offered as a base at 549 euros, but with the game of promotions, it is possible to obtain it cheaper. If you choose this tablet, we recommend reading the Galaxy Tab S7 FE test.
RealmePad The little news
The Realme Pad is the direct competitor of the Galaxy Tab A8. It plays in the same price range in its most muscular version with 6 GB of RAM. The Realme touch pad is the first attempt by the Chinese manufacturer, used to smartphones, and it is quite successful.
If the Realme Pad does not make a splash, it turns out to be a balanced and sufficient product for the requested use. Like all the other cheap tablets, it doesn’t shine on its photo part – but that’s not what we expect of it anyway. Above all, it has a beautiful 10.4-inch LCD technology screen that will meet all the required uses.
Its strengths? Its SoC Helio G80 from MediaTek (perfect for classic uses) and its good autonomy (7100 mAh battery). We also appreciate the absence of the usual batch of pre-installed and often useless applications: Realme UI is a very refined version of Android.
The Realme Pad also has another advantage: being available in different configurations, its price varies from 239 to 289 euros depending on the RAM and the storage available, which allows everyone to choose what they need according to their budget. The tablet is also regularly offered at a discount.
Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Small size and low price
The Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite is the “low price” reference of this selection. In Wi-Fi version, this small tablet with an 8.7-inch screen is the ideal companion for nomads, as well as for reading.
This inexpensive tablet designed for family use is easily held in one hand. With less than a centimeter in thickness and its light weight, it slips almost everywhere and can be easily transported, for example during a trip. It is therefore very practical for viewing some content on a screen larger than a smartphone, or for reading an e-book. At this price, it is of course not intended for video games or professional use.
Finally, we also recommend looking at the refurbished and second-hand side because it is possible to obtain a cheap but still efficient tablet. For example, the iPad Air 3 (2019) can be found refurbished at around 400 euros. On occasion, the prices of tablets are falling rapidly, with consumers turning more and more to large-format smartphones. Good deals are therefore to be had!

How to choose a cheap tablet?
What are the uses of a touch pad?
With smartphones with increasingly large screens (the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, for example, is approaching 7 inches), the interest in slates has been reduced from year to year. This explains why they are more and more focused on productivity thanks to keyboards or styluses. Thus, while high-end tablets remain excellent consultation terminals, they are increasingly becoming creative tools, like the iPad Pro.
Less expensive products will nevertheless make good secondary terminals, for extra use, for example to watch films and series on the move, or even read an e-book.
Which OS to choose?
There are two: iPadOS and Android. iPadOS is clearly more successful and above all richer. It has indeed a larger catalog of applications, and better adapted to the tablet format. For intensive use, for work, or even for creative people, iPadOS will undoubtedly be more practical. Android for its part has the merit of being available on tablets at all prices, and will be more than enough for web browsing.
Which tablet format do you prefer?
The vast majority of tablets, especially on the entry and mid-range, offer a 10 to 11 inch screen. They are thus placed between smartphones and laptops which start at 13 inches. There are of course 12-inch tablets, but at that point you will have to ask yourself the question of going directly to a PC. If the screen is less than 10 inches, it may be less enjoyable to watch long video content such as a movie. An 8-inch tablet, on the other hand, will be perfect for reading. It is therefore up to everyone to define their uses to choose the size accordingly.
