WhatsApp announces stopping support on iOS 10 and 11; if you have an iPhone 5 or 5C, you will have to change smartphones if you want to continue using the application.
The WhatsApp instant messaging application will soon become incompatible with iOS versions 10 and 11. It informs its users who (still) use this version of Apple’s mobile operating system.
At least iOS 12 to use WhatsApp by the end of the year
A screenshot posted by WABetaInfoa site specializing in information around WhatsApp, shows a message from the application that is displayed for users of iOS 10 and 11. It reads that “ WhatsApp will stop supporting this version of iOS after October 24, 2022 “. To continue using the application, you will therefore need to upgrade to version 12 of the operating system or higher.
WhatsApp doesn’t explain why it’s stopping support for these older versions of iOS, but presumably it’s for security and compatibility reasons. Moreover, the application is launching new features, concerning the multi-device mode, its story system or even something to allow you to leave a conversation discreetly. Regarding security reasons,XDA Developerspoints out that Telegram is available on iOS 9.
iPhone 5 and 5C users won’t have a choice
For those who have an iPhone 5S, 6 or more, no problem: by updating iOS, you will be able to continue using WhatsApp without problems (iPhone 5S supports iOS 12). However, for iPhone 5 and 5C users, they will have no choice but to switch smartphones if they want to continue messaging with the app. You should know that Apple has stopped supporting these phones, which are therefore no longer updated.
While app support for iOS 10 and 11 is waning, we’re (already) at version 15.5 for iPhone and iPad with some improvements. In addition, the next major operating system update, iOS 16, promises to be “important“.
