That’s it, the third generation of the iPhone SE has been unveiled. It does not fundamentally change the basic formula, but still adds more power and compatibility with the 5G network. And today it is already possible to find Apple’s new affordable smartphone on sale.
During the first keynote of the year 2022 which was held on Tuesday March 8, Apple took the opportunity to present many products, including a new version of the iPad Air with the M1 processor or the super-powerful Mac. Studio equipped with the new M1 Ultra chip. A smartphone was also there, it’s the new 5G-compatible iPhone SE, and it’s already cheaper at some retailers.
Where to buy the iPhone SE 5G 2022?
The iPhone SE 5G 2022 is offered at the recommended retail price of 529 euros for the version with 64 GB of storage. Then count 579 euros for 128 GB and 699 euros for 256 GB. We therefore note that it is 40 euros more than the price of the iPhone SE 2020 at its launch.
Moreover, it is already cheaper at RED by SFR: 499 euros instead of 529 euros.
All about the iPhone SE 5G 2022
What immediately jumps out with this third-generation iPhone SE is that it takes up the design of its predecessor, the SE 2020. We are therefore once again entitled to the chassis taken from the iPhone 8, which offers large borders at the top and bottom, in particular to keep the Home button equipped with Touch ID in order to unlock the phone. Obviously, the format remains very compact with an XDR LCD screen offering a diagonal of only 4.7 inches, a definition of 1,334 x 750 pixels and a refresh rate of 60 Hz. It also promises to be more solid than the old model, because protected by Ceramic Shield, both front and back, not to mention the IP67 certification.

The main change to Apple’s affordable smartphone in 2022 is the integration of the A15 Bionic chip, which is also found in the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro. The power is therefore very high, estimated at almost 1.8 times more than the iPhone 8 for the CPU, 2.2 times more than the GPU, of the iPhone 8 still, and 26 times more in terms of calculations based on machine learning. In addition to improved performance, the iPhone SE of 2022 also benefits from some new features such as LiveText or Siri directly in the device. And of course, compatibility with the 5G network is in the game this time.
That’s not all, since the fast charge of the 3rd gen SE is more efficient than before, where the Cupertino company announces that only 30 minutes are enough to recover 50% battery with a 20 W charger, the latter does not being on the other hand not included in the box of the telephone. As far as battery life is concerned, Apple offers a few figures: 15 hours of video playback, 10 hours of streaming video playback and 50 hours of audio playback.
To finish with the photo part, the iPhone SE 5G 2022 retains the 12 megapixel mono sensor, but that does not mean that the quality of the shots is not on the rise. Indeed, it benefits from almost all the software features present on the iPhone 13, such as Deep Fusion, Smart HDR 4, enhanced video quality thanks to its IPS, the possibility of applying photographic styles or even a portrait mode. Finally, note that the phone will be available right out of the box with iOS 15 and should be updated for many years, as is often the case with Apple.
