A certification of the Pixel Watch by the FCC shows that the watch will be offered in a 4G version to use it without having your smartphone with you.
If the rumors around the Pixel Watch were already present before its confirmation by Google, they did not stop after its officialization. It must be said that the watch, whose release is expected next fall, has its share of surprises in store and the manufacturer has not yet revealed all of its technical characteristics.
Logically, the certification of the Google connected watch by the FCC – the American commission in charge of communications – therefore allows us to learn more about the data sheet of the Google Pixel Watch. As reported by the site 9to5Google, the digital toquante was indeed certified on May 11 by the American authority. The opportunity to learn more about it.
We can thus discover that in addition to communication by Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, the Google Pixel Watch will be available in a 4G version for two of its versions. In the United States, they will be able to count on the 4G bands B5, B7 and B26 for one model, and B2, B4, B5, B12, B13, B17, B25, B26, B66 and B71 for the second. Remember that in France, 4G uses frequency bands B1, B3, B7, B20 and B28. The first of these two models therefore seems to be the most capable of allowing 4G compatibility of the Pixel Watch on French territory thanks to its B7 compatibility (2600 MHz).
Remember that 4G compatibility can make it possible to take calls or listen to streaming music even without having your smartphone with you. A very practical use, for example, to go running with only your watch and a pair of headphones.
A charger with a USB-C plug
The same FCC certification says the watch will come with a USB-C charging cable made by supplier Compal. Concretely, if one of the ends of the cable should integrate a magnetic charging system, the other would not benefit from a USB-A socket, but from the USB-C connection. A choice of connectors which should lead to the use of a USB-C compatible smartphone charger or a laptop taking advantage of this connector. It should also be noted that Compal is a supplier already well known to Apple Watch users since it is the main producer of Apple connected watches.
For the time being, we still do not know the precise characteristics of the Google Pixel Watch. Some recent information suggests that the watch will be equipped with an old chip from Samsung, the Exynos 9110, accompanied by a second co-processor. It could also benefit from 32 GB of storage and unprecedented RAM on a connected watch.
We will still have to wait until the launch of the watch before discovering all its secrets. As a reminder, the Google Pixel Watch will be launched in the fall, at the same time as the Google Pixel 7 and Google Pixel 7 Pro.
